California has taken a leading role nationwide in providing
the opportunity for Personalized Learning schools to establish and flourish. Through providing flexibility in its charter
school education statutes to allow for student learning both within and beyond the traditional classroom environment, California
is currently the only state nationwide where Personalized Learning schools are available.
Though the Personalized Learning
movement is not intended to be limited to only charter schools, the charter school movement in California has been the fertile
soil in which the Personalized Learning model has been able to establish itself and grow in the 21st century. The Personalized
Learning movement is hopeful that other forward thinking educators and administrators of both traditional and other alternative
schools will join the Personalized Learning movement in the future.
There are dozens of Personalized Learning charter
schools in California, collectively serving more than 20,000 K-12 students. This total represents approximately 10% of the
entire California charter school movement. To find out more about California's Personalized Learning schools, please visit
